Arcy Douglass, 'Field-2,' 2010, digital work

Continuing through October 23, 2010

In "Cloud," Arcy Douglass transforms the gallery into a black and white kinetic ceiling-to-wall frieze, using stark light, paint and digital resources. Taking cues from Modernism and mathematics, the gallery presents large wall paintings on two facing sides with a digital installation facing towards the street. The entire room is lit by the back and white screen.

All imagery is rooted in the circle: some are halved, some sliced and some are left intact. The clean, graphic formality contains hints of 1960s optimism and could be well used as a backdrop for a fashion shoot a la "Blow Up." The artist maintains that "Cloud" relies completely on stats, science and math - it contains a variety of combinations, "larger than the number of cells in the human body and smaller than the number of atoms in the planet." Either way, this installation is an energetic yet intimate stage. It should reside in a public place for a more lengthy duration.
