The Barker Hangar at the Santa Monica Airport
Change of Venue secures expansion and signals commitment
to greater Los Angeles

Los Angeles, CA (April 26, 2012): Art Platform—Los Angeles, the modern and contemporary art fair for Los Angeles, will relocate to Santa Monica, for the second edition of the fair. The fair will open Thursday, September 27th, 2012 at the historic Barker Hangar at the Santa Monica Airport just minutes from the beach and the Santa Monica Pier. Fair organizers view the move to the Barker Hangar, a noted event venue in West Los Angeles, as an opportunity to further realize the fair’s fundamental mission to produce an art fair that celebrates the best of Los Angeles' art world within the context of the global art community.

The 2012 edition of Art Platform—Los Angeles will bring together both local and international artists, dealers, collectors, museums and art enthusiasts, to engage in a vibrant exchange of art and culture. The move to the Barker Hangar will emphasize thefair's commitment to Los Angeles as an international art capital, and to the growth of the fair as an essential event in the ever expanding art world. As the premier art fair in Southern California, Art Platform—Los Angeles will continue to provide unprecedented access to the artists, institutions, and collections that define the Los Angeles art scene through the outstanding selection of innovative galleries, extensive VIP program, stimulating Open Platform speaker series, and special programming.

“Santa Monica has acted as a hotbed for cultural production for decades,” noted Art Platform—Los Angeles Executive Director Adam Gross. “Launching our second edition at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica demonstrates Art Platform - Los Angeles' commitment to the local and international arts community to continue to represent the vibrancy of the arts in Los Angeles. As the defining art fair in Los Angeles, it is important that all our actions capture the essence of this great city. The Barker Hangar and Santa Monica will not only afford us the space to grow as well as present an international art fair in a location that is easily accessed by Angelenos and visitors alike. The new Westside location will also allow our audience to enjoy our extensive VIP program first developed last year as part of our sponsorship of Pacific Standard Time, an initiative of The Getty.'

Los Angeles collector Clifford Einstein offered support for the fair’s new location and noted that “there are now art fairs in over a dozen great cities, but so many artists that people are talking about—Ruscha, Baldessari, Grotjahn, Bradford, Ray, Burden, McCarthy, Rubens, Ruby, Houseago, Upson, Aitken, Opie, Hundley, Monahan—so many of them are here. It makes LA the home court for today’s most influential artists.”

The 2012 Art Platform—Los Angeles art fair will open on Thursday, September 27, 2012 for a private preview and will continue through Sunday, September 30th for the general public.
