In October of 2008, George Lawson opened a San Francisco exhibition space at 49 Geary, and named it room for painting room for paper, later renamed George Lawson Gallery. The gallery moved in June of 2011 to Los Angeles, renovating a storefront at 8564 Washington Boulevard in the Culver City gallery district. In January of 2012, we opened a second space in San Francisco's lower Nob Hill neighborhood at 780 Sutter Street. In June of 2013, we decided to once again consolidate the gallery's program in San Francisco, closing the Culver City space and signing a lease on another storefront in Potrero Hill at 315 Potrero Avenue.
The gallery's program emphasizes contemporary painting, with a paired monthly schedule in the two galleries, showcasing an international roster of emerging and mid-career artists who paint, or work in disciplines with strong conceptual links to painting. The gallery has exhibited artists from Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Switzerland, Germany, the UK, as well as New York, Boston, Santa Fe, the Pacific Northwest, and California. We produces limited edition books for many of our exhibitions, available on request or downloadable as PDFs off the web site.
