Gallery Wendi Norris presents a compelling contemporary and modern program with a strong emphasis on the global market. Since 2003, we have worked with over one hundred of the top museums around the world, placing works in their collections and collaborating on solo and group exhibitions. Though, by design, the range of works we show is diverse, a common thread runs through them all: a focus on the human ability to create psychological and spiritual meaning through form and content. Both the artworks and the artists themselves are emblematic of this aesthetic ambition and our trans-cultural nature. Through our expertise in the modern art world, with an unparalleled network in Surrealism, and through our considered selection of some of today’s most dynamic artists, we support a range of private clients, museums, and not-for-profit art organizations.
The gallery presents a rigorous program including at least eight critical exhibitions per year. Each exhibition includes a public outreach component, utilizing our relationships with arts nonprofits, top art schools, collector groups, and key scholars and critics. These exhibitions comprise a variety of media, including video, paintings, sculpture, photography, drawings, and performance. We present art that redefines boundaries. From the Surrealist exploration of unchartered mental and theoretical territories in the 1930s, to today’s artists bridging geographic and cultural distances to generate new formal and conceptual landscapes, the gallery seeks out and promotes work that is richly engaging.
We’re proud to actively introduce artists into new markets, and strive to re-contextualize work through scholarship and art criticism. With our contemporary program, we recently introduced Australia’s famed duo Sean Cordeiro and Claire Healy to the US market, while coordinating with their solo exhibit at the Corcoran in Washington, D.C. And we also introduced the increasingly sought after LA-based artist Sherin Guirguis to markets in the Middle East, resulting in several museum acquisitions and her first solo museum exhibition. With our modern program, Gallery Wendi Norris has produced museum quality exhibitions for artists like Remedios Varo, Wolfgang Paalen and Dorothea Tanning, producing seminal catalogues and fostering much needed scholarship, significantly contributing to surges in their respective markets. Cultivating fresh collectors for artists that had once been known to only a few is our passion.
