Frey Norris Gallery provides an inviting environment for experiencing contemporary and modern art, with an eclectic program of exhibitions, augmented with rigorous publishing, insightful art world and community events, and a growing library and archive. Through this diverse array of activities, Frey Norris attracts a broad audience who often seek guidance in navigating the complex global art market.
The contemporary gallery features art from California and Asia in a wide range of media, hosting the American debuts of some of the most intriguing artists in China, Korea, Pakistan, India and Japan. These artists amuse, provoke, surprise and challenge, exploring fresh meaning and expressing innovative perspectives. We operate a nimble program, attending to each artist's particular vision, whether he or she is widely celebrated or as yet relatively unknown.
The Annex, located above the main gallery on the third floor, focuses on classic Surrealism from its birth in 1924 to the 1960's, and specializes in women artists associated with this movement. Recent exhibitions include 'Wolfgang Paalen: Implicit Spaces' and 'Leonora Carrington: The Talismanic Lens'. Featured artists include Victor Brauner, Leonora Carrington, Oscar Dominguez, Max Ernst, Leonor Fini, Andre Masson, Wolfgang Paalen, Stella Snead, Dorothea Tanning and Remedios Varo, among others. The Annex possesses one of the most significant collections of Surrealism available in a private gallery in the United States.
