In 1996, gallery owner Jane Beebe opened PDX Contemporary Art in Portland’s developing Pearl district in a small, beautiful, innovative space designed by award winning architect, Brad Cloepfil of Allied Works Architecture. By the fall of 2005, PDX and the represented artists had grown and relocated into a much larger space. The gallery is currently located in one of the oldest buildings in the Pearl District. Allied Works Architecture designed a space that combines a contemporary layout of sliding and rotating walls, with the historic character and natural light of the building. The space reflects PDX's philosophy of recognizing the past, living in the present, and looking to the future.
PDX continues to show work that, as Beebe says, 'has a slight conceptual edge. It is personal work which is both intellectually and visually satisfying.'
