TRANSITING

Organized by Lawrence Gipe, Kio Griffith & John David O’Brien

Arena1 is pleased to announce Transiting, an exhibition organized by artists Lawrence Gipe, Kio Griffith and John David O’Brien which opens Friday, July 27th with an artists reception and runs through August 18th.

Through video, photography, drawing, painting and mixed media sculpture the fifteen artists in this exhibition address time, travel, dislocation and the sensation of “being in transit.”  While the works included are not meant as illustrations of Mario Perniola's “Transiti” (1980) in which he uses the term to express a dynamic philosophical tool for looking at the passageways cut through time and space in one's everyday existence, they were selected for their cross trajectories with his ideas.

Perniola’s examination of the role of images in a wide range of aesthetic and social contexts and his notion of transit as a suitable way to capture the cultural aspects of technology that have altered today’s society provided the inspiration of this exhibition.

Featuring Sebastian Alvarez, Jennifer Celio, Lawrence Gip, Kio Griffith, Deborah Hed, Jon Kuzmich, David Leapma, Jason Manley, John David O’Brien, Rika Ohara, Masao Okabe, Christopher Pate, Julio M. Romero, Elizabeth Saveri, Michal Wisniowski, Meital Yaniv and Huo Youfeng.
