LOS ANGELES, CA (Feb. 12TH, 2015) L.A. Artcore is pleased to present a solo exhibit entitled Abeyance by Los Angeles artist Babak Emanuel.

Emanuel’s paintings in this exhibit are comprised of a number of works in progress that are tightly-woven echoes of past bodies of work. As is consistent with Emanuel's exploration of concepts through material investigation and technical development, the overarching theme of the show illuminates and analyzes this communication whose sources and origins lie in human forms and sublimated visions.

In the main gallery, large-scale painting on canvas depicting these energies that are formally and conceptually indebted to decayed carcasses, to brutality and the oblivion. They are cathedrals to nature’s indifference and also to the illusion that is human rationality.

The exhibition continues the theme of Abeyance, a state of temporary inactivity, with a second series of large works on paper. They are created with gestures and mark-making, juxtaposed with shapes and impressions of the human form which allow a visual interaction and conversation.

A smaller series of works on paper in mixed-media presented in succession finds Emanuel using the painterly characteristics of intaglio and accidental marks, to explore and change our perceptions and objective aberration of what we collectively see as human form. They are narratives of their metamorphosis which can be read throughout the surface of each work.

A group of works on board with silhouettes of natural shapes with uninterrupted movements is presented in a grid to allow the viewer to submit their own interactions and behavior to connect to the work. The exhibition Abeyance reveals a powerful and sophisticated experience provoking interactions between the work and the viewer.
