LOS ANGELES, CA (April 15th, 2014) L.A. Artcore is pleased to announce a special exhibit of Yoella Razili and Scott Gordon, both of whom will exhibit their individual and collaborative works. The beginnings of their collaborations trace back to Sylmar, a town just Northeast of Northridge, California in 1994, when they were brought together for a group show called 'Intimate Images', by Julie Sim Edwards at Century Gallery. When Gordon relocated to Texas they began a series of collaborative drawings and collages on paper that eventually extended to mixed-media. The complimentary forces of the hard-edged and sculptural constructions of Razili's art—both a paean to her native Israel's natural and manmade  features as well as a vehicle of material exploration—and the spontaneous collaged approach of Gordon have sustained over two decades of works that capture the unique character in each artist's approach. When asked about their sensibilities Gordon adds, 'I think Yoella has a great affinity for materials and their tactile surfaces; to me they seem to be always ruptured or wounded. As such, her sensibility is more rough-hewn than mine which I admire. My work has always tended to emphasize two-dimensionality and thus leans towards more illusionistic tendencies. My aesthetic could probably be considered more decorative. I think surface for me is implied where as for Yoella it's actual. Perhaps it's that juxtaposition that gives the collaborations their dynamic.'

What surprisingly springs in these vital works are creative intensities that fluctuate between both artists as they seek to remove obstacles and allow their responses to become unfiltered and progressive. Working in this manner, Gordon comments, 'I think that learning to let go of the results has been a valuable gift I've received from this shared project - being willing to take more risks and let go of authorship in my own work. I also think that this type of relationship involved a form of intimacy and trust that helped remind me that I'm not alone.'
