LOS ANGELES, CA (Sept., 2014) L.A. Artcore is pleased to present a solo exhibit By Tokyo-based artist Toko Tokunaga. This is a chance to see abstract works of a high order with almost no premeditation in her process. Tokunaga paints to the painting's end, yet, the painting's limits are only a fragment itself of a much larger arena of information that compels Tokunaga. With her refined technical knowledge, experience and training—at Paris' Ecole National Superiour de Beaux-Art—Tokunaga's paintings are structured in layers but admits that there is no rationale for how its elements come together and are guided only intuitively. The forms in Tokunaga's paintings exist in simultaneity, and are both felt and seen as inner sensations and visual phenomena in which they are suspended between concreteness and immateriality and then translated directly. Tokunaga's fluid process is no small feat as it is the vocation of most painters to regularly work through both technical and expressive problems, but this circumstance has little or no bearing to Tokunaga's artistic path, as she draws unequivocally from her inner life, forms that emanate between conception and recognition without forethought. Tokunaga's innate sensitivity and generative spirit underlie the perpetually innovative forms and combinations that continually accrete to the artist's extensive and versatile body of work.
