Valley House Gallery is pleased to announce our first exhibition for Dallas artist Carol Cook. After receiving her BFA from the Otis Institute in Los Angeles, Cook earned a Master of Occupational Therapy from Texas Woman’s University in Denton. In 2000, Cook earned her MFA in Ceramics from the University of Dallas.

Since childhood, I have been making clay figures to express what interested me. This group of small, fired-clay figures is an outgrowth of many years of three-dimensional shorthand. When I make a figure I try to feel what my subjects feel from the inside out. I choose the motif of people in their furniture because people’s lives are played out and influenced by the chairs they occupy. These sculptures are part of my ongoing response to a special, sometimes forgotten, segment of our population and the inspirational encounters I have had with them.
