Kenny Scharf, “BLOX and BAX,” 2017, installation view

Continuing through April 22, 2017

It is difficult not to enjoy an exhibition of new works by Kenny Scharf. His work is accessible, colorful, funny and awe inspiring. Scharf continues to find new ways to enchant, surprise and delight viewers of all ages and in "Blox and Bax" he presents three new series of works. In a series entitled “Baks" he decorates discarded televisions using them as the structure for brightly colored faces. In Blox, he creates large-scale paintings, many divided into numerous rectangles, and each depicting a simplified and brightly colored cartoon face. The third series features wall mounted assemblages containing found toys and colorful plastic parts. While Scharf's works are enchanting on the surface, they also speak to social and environmental concerns. He excels at transforming the banal and everyday into something thought provoking that can be appreciated on numerous levels.
