Luis Meléndez: Master of the Spanish Still Life
Luis Meléndez was the greatest still life painter of eighteenth-century Spain and one of the greatest painters of the genre in all Europe. Though his life was tragic—he was kicked out of art academy, overshadowed by Goya, and died a pauper—there is no evidence of his struggles in his extraordinary body of work, on view at LAMCA in Luis Meléndez: Master of the Spanish Still Life. Discover the precision, sheer beauty, and delicious compositions that made the artist a true visionary who led the way for modern artists like Giorgio Morandi and Paul Cézanne.
