"Transporter"
at Kopeikin Gallery, Culver City, California
by Jody Zellen

Joshua Callaghan, “Playa Vista, Curb,” 2007 (edition 2017), inkjet print, 11 x 17”

“Transporter" is a group exhibition curated by artists Katie Shapiro and Sean Higgins featuring the work of eleven artists, including themselves, whose works investigate the act of being transported. According to the curators, each of the artists "takes the viewer somewhere new, offering an opportunity to stand in a place, reconfigured." Of note are the dream-like watercolor and acrylic paintings on paper of sublime landscapes by Aaron Morse and Joshua Callaghan's photographs of utility boxes wrapped with images of the nearby landscape. The other artists (Leon Benn, Matthew Brandt, Nathaniel Klein, Michelle Young Lee, Benjamin Lord, Elena Roznovan and Debra Scacco) working in photography, video and sculpture present an intriguing and compelling array of works that interpret the theme in myriad ways.
